Food Innocence Lost

This is a simple message

Any child can understand.

How we alter and poison our food

For the people of the land.

Choices we have!

To question what’s bad.

Food so cheap

We waste as much as we eat.

Chickens we grow in 45 days or so

Then off to market they go.

Kept in light through day and night.

Fed feed they eat without true delight

Formulated so they can’t stop or sleep

Until harvest ends their sorrowing peep.

Cattle snatched from grassy fields

Then to feed lots to prepare for someone’s meal.

Penned and fed to make them fat.

Chemical cocktails, hormones, antibiotics

Anti-depressants and such as that

Make them eat what is fed

Until it’s time to make them dead.

The world is hungry we are told

Must prepare to feed the mutltifolds.               .

Use what we must to make it grow

GMO seeds, pesticides, fertilizer added to what is sowed.

Chemical runoff to the water it goes.

What it does to us, we seem not to know.

Blind eye we turn

Our food waste we churn.

Awake! Eyes open!

We have paid a cost

Food Innocence has been Lost.
